Italy Redux

A month after returning from Italy (seeherefor a complete portfolio) I was reviewing my RAW files one last time prior to burning an archival CD and storing them away. Much to my surprise I came across two frames that I clearly remembered shooting but also totally neglected on my first review. I find them to be two of the most evocative images from the trip.

Arno Dawn, Florence 2001

In this image what’s unseen is just as important as what’s visible. This pre-dawn silhouette of the southeastern shore of theArnoriver as it runs throughFlorenceis much more intriguing than a daytime view would have been. The flock of birds against the wispy clouds is fortuitous and brings the composition together.

Lucca Window, Tuscany 2001

This photograph may have more personal resonance for me than for other viewers. A misty morning seen though the living room window of our rented farmhouse outside ofLucca

There is a well documented history in photography of photographs taken through unfamiliar windows. This is a common setting for nudes as well. For me this prosaic table with decanter and books evokes a different aspect of the Italian lifestyle.

Both of these photographs were taken with a Canon EOS D30 and 28~135mm f/3.5~f/5.6L lens.If these appeal to you it’s worthwhile viewing both frames in their larger version by clicking on the photographs above.
