hey guys, went into my local camera shop this weekend and was dissapointed when they told me i had no option to pull a real fisheye effect on my rebel xt. i tried out the 10-22 but the 1.6 converter inside the xt shut off the real fish eye effect.

is fish eye strictly about the mm or is their something they do to the glass as well, because now looking on canons site i see a 15mm fish eye ef.

There is not a lens available today that will give you an effective fisheye effect on the 1.6 XT. Go full frame.

A peleng 8mm fisheye on a crop camera should be somewhat fishier than a 15mm diagonal fisheye on a full frame camera.

Agreed on the first part; Canon shows little interest in providing more advanced or specialized wide angle lenses for its EF-S mount DSLRs.

For some alternatives to paying several thousand dollars more for a Canon 35mm film format DSLR, you could consider

- a Nikon DX format SLR with the Nikon DX 10.5mm 180º fisheye lens.

- an Olympus (or Panasonic) 4/3 format SLR with the 4/3 format 8mm 180º fish-eye that Olympus has coming soon.

Above all, do not take the limitations that Canon currently imposes on its EF-S offerings as limitations of the mainstream digital SLR formats in general!

I'm off to Africa this September and plan on buying a 5D. I have a 10D and 20D now and will discontinue my 10D. I might even convert the 20D to IR in which case I'll buy two 5D's unless something newer comes from the PMA.

I can hardly wait to go full frame with the 5D.

what does everyone think about the sigma 8mm?
