One interesting statement from that rather ill-informed Pentax spokesperson is the 22MP. Pentax and Kodak had previously announced that the Pentax "645D" would use a new 18MP, 33x44mm Kodak sensor, but apparently they have decided to match Mamiya by using one of the larger 22MP sensors of about, probably the 37x49mm from Kodak but maybe the 36x48mm from Dalsa that is used by Mamiya.

I saty "ill-informed" because for sure the sensor is not the full 645 format of 42x56mm; no sensor that large is made!

Retraction: The "Pentax 645 Digital" will use the originally stated 18MP, 33x44mm Kodak sensor, not a 22MP one, so that Pentax spokesperson was even more ill-informed than I thought. Pentax has a pre-PMA press release at http://www.pentaximaging.com/footer/news_m...ticleId=7414552 saying:

...
3. Product type: Lens-interchangeable medium-format digital SLR camera
Model name (tentative): PENTAX 645 Digital
Product information:
Professional-quality digital image reproduction with 18 effective megapixels
Kodak-developed extra-large CCD image sensor with 18.6 total megapixels (tentative)
...

By the way, item 1. is a 10MP DSLR, and item 2. is a 21mm f/3.2 DA ("16x24mm") format.
