Full Version: Canon 20D - Shutter stopped working momentarily..

I was in the middle of a job this afternoon.

I remember quickly deleting an image and then immediately changing the aperature (I always shoot on manual).

I then fired the shutter and nothing happened. I could change the aperature and shutter speed, and I could view images on the screen. But, the shutter would not fire.

So, I swithed off the camera. Strangely, the information display did not disappear from the screen. I switched on the camera again. Still no shutter firing.

So, I switched off the camara (the display was still visible) and removed the battery. After reinserting it, the camera worked fine.

Anyone ever had this problem?

Thanks.

ps. The battery was/is almost fully charged

Yep.

I've had a number of failures that were quickly fixed by popping out the battery. (Including one that sounds identical to your failure. I also liked the one where it couldn't pop up the flash until I pulled the battery.)

I have too, and the battery always works. So far, nothing bad has stayed permanently so I can't tell you much other than that you are not alone.

I have had my 20D become non-responsive like that also... popping the battery out... counting to 5 and putting it back in seems to fix.

I'd say after a year of owning the 20D, I've had this sort of thing happen at least 2, maybe 3 times.

I cannot recall if it has happened since I've gotten the latest firmware update (version 2.0.3)

I'd the same event with my 20D, but also with my cell phone a P910 by Sony Ericsson. When I had a Palm, it was the same. And with Windows, isn't it the same PC owners ? (I 'm a Mac user)
