Are there many users out ther using the Schneider electronic shutter system? I see that Jenoptic (including the eMotion backs) seem to have worked with Schneider so they can be controlled directly from the capture software. For other backs it looks like you need to use the Schneider controller ES to use the shutter. Does that mean that when using an eMotion not tethered to a Mac or a different MF DB then the shutter would not operate unless you have the controller ES? Any opinions from people with experience using these shutters?

We have sold the Eyelike/Schneider solution you're talking about - the one without the ES Controller. It's a nice solution, because it's basically just cabling - there's no box that has to be dealt with and functionally, I believe it's the same as the ES Controller (with the same 1/60th second limitation). Hasselblad also has a similar Schneider solution, except that they have a little matchbox-sized box with one button to open and close the shutter.

We just received our Sinar eMotion 75 demo unit, and I'll look at it tomorrow and see if it still maintains the compatible ports for that solution.

You will see it requires mains power without the controller, which I supose is logical as you are operating the shutter from the eyelike software on a Mac in a studio. I imagine that you need the controller for location work. Being a 1/60 sec max shutter speed that may be a bit limiting for location work, but I suppose the eMotion22 has a 25 iso setting so it mightn't be that much of a problem. I'd be interested to hear how people have been using it, if if many of them are out there.

Today I tried to connect our Sinar eMotion 75 to the Schneider proprietary cable for Eyelike digital backs. Unfortunately, it is missing one of the ports that was present in the Eyelike Precision series of digital backs. So, for Schneider Electronic Shutters, you'll need the ES Controller. I'm assuming the eMotion 22 has the same port configuration.

I think it's more that the proprietary controller was likely in development before Schneider came out with a universal solution to give Eyelike something exclusive (I could be wrong on that, but Eyelike and Schneider have always had a good relationship, of course), and now that a universal solution exists, they didn't see the need for continuing with the port compatibility on the proprietary solution.

I couldn't find a diagram of the e75 online. The e22 has a firewire port and 2 others. I've attached a photo of the ports, is this the same as the e75?
If the support for the electronic shutter is not ongoing, maybe its not a system to develop.
With Sinar being 51% owned by Jena now, would it be that Jena are more interested in developing Sinar's shutter solutions (which I am not familiar with) than continuing the development with Schneider?
