Been ebaying to find a film scanner to replace my Minolta Scan Dual III...

I remember reading some old thread about changes between the Minolta Scan Elite 5400 and the 5400 II that might make the older model more desirable, but those posts were speculative and I'm wondering if anyone has hands-on experience to report.

The 5400 II is apparently much faster and lacks firewire but has USB 2. Are there other issues that would suggest getting the 5400 instead? (I have a few thousand Kodachromes, plus some Tri-X and FUJI NPS negs to scan.)

They're all discontinued, so my only option seems to be buying one used, or getting a Nikon instead.

Thanks in advance for any advice.

FWIW,

I have the Nikon 5000. Quality of scans is excellent. Don't know if 5400 is better. But, one can also buy a slide feeder and move quickly (relatively) through a large batch of transparencies.

I think its the only new scanner with this capability.
