Since I use heavy (325 gm) single sheets of 17 x 22" paper manually fed from the front in my Epson 4800. I was wondering how this might work on the Canon. Michael only touched on this issue and said light weight sheets could not be fed. Is the paper actually fed from the front, from the top, or from the back as reported by one reviewer. Is the loading accurate or a kluge?

Any report on the heaviest paper recommended in the cassette? Also any info on the minimum paper size allowed in the cassette. The 4800 has to have its size sensors turned off to print greeting cards.

The iPF5000 can take heavy posterboard through the front feed slot. I don't have exact specs on weight.

Cassette: 0.83-0.3 mm (3.2-11.8 mil)
Top Loading Manual Feed: 0.08-0.5 mm (3.2-19.6 mil)
Front Loading Manual Feed: 0.5-1.5 mm (19.6-59.0 mil)
Roll: 0.07-0.8mm (2.8-31.4 mil)

Looks like no problem at 59 mil - the thickest I use is Arches at 28 mils.

I just got news that someone in my building is getting the IPF 5000 soon so I'll be able to test the accuracy and consistancy of loading myself. Thanks for your answers, Michael and DL.

Loading for the top accurately so as to not get a reject - skewed message - took me a little practice. But after a while I was batting about 80-90% on first try. So - it does require a little learned skill which during a period of disuse may need a try or 2 to warm up, then should be OK. My thoughts on it...

Thanks Gary. The Epson took ma a few tries but I get manual feeding almost 99& of the time now. It's a breeze. Soon I'll be able to get the feel of it myself.
