Well, I too took the plunge and decided to liberate myself of some weight for those times where I wanted some happy snaps - and I purchased a Canon G7.

I have only been handling it for about an hour - going through the manual and taking test images, and whilst doing this I noticed that the camera becomes quite hot.

I am not accustomed to having a piece of equipment so close to the battery, but was wondering whether this is to be expected.

Would those fellow new owners of the G7 Kindly advise whether you have also found this camera to become quite hot after ...say about...10 minutes of taking photos, reviewing...changing settings...taking more photos?

That's interesting. Just yesterday I noted that my G7 stays very cool during shooting. Its predecessor, my Powershot S70, became very hot after shooting a series of RAW images. By my G7 has remained quite cool, even during extended use.

I wonder if settings affect the temperature? For example, I've set mine to apply IS only "During Shoot", rather than "Continuously". Just a thought.

Thanks Ken, I will try with IS just "during shoot" and see if it makes a difference.
