I would like to get into the benefits of TSE lens's for my landscape work - a recent shoot at Cape Shank has convinced me of the benefits when shooting wide angle.

See my Wild Landscape portfolio for examples of wide angle shots where I think some perspective control would further improve my work. I know you can do this in photoshop - but I dont want to - I prefer to get it right in the field.

I am consdiering the Canon 24mm TSE lens to compliment my 16-35mm F2.8L lens for wide angle landscape.

Can anyone reccomend any other alternatives - or is this the best I should get?

A pointer to any reviews would also be useful.

I have the Canon 24mm TSE. The lens is soft and sending it to Canon for calibration did not help. I cannot recommend the lens.

Their 45mm TSE is, however, very sharp.

Hartblei does a 35mm f/2.8 in various mounts. I couldn't find it or a complete mount selection on their site, but an email to sales@hartblei.com will get you a quote.

You may never get an answer to your email. They have the 35 in a Canon mount but at the time I was interested, had none in stock and after waiting for a good while for imports, I ended up buyng the Canon 45. However, since that's not wide enough for you, I would give them a call. There are some good reviews of this lens on both dpreview

and Fred Miranda (search). You will find photos, photos of the lens' controls (which are quite different from Canon's), etc. It is in the range of $500 as I recall--about 1/2 the price of a Canon TSE.

I have all four Canon tilt/shift lenses. While the 24 is the softest of them all, it's actually quite good stopped down to shooting aperture. The other three are better wide open, no doubt. But even tilted, you'll not want to be shooting landscapes at f:4. Use it at f:8 or f:11 and you should be very pleased.

Would you say the 24mm TSE Canon is as sharp as the 35mm F1.4 at F8? If it is or its close it would be the lens for me.
