Hello,

I've a problem with my new 24-105 lens: when the IS engages, it makes a strange noise, like a chirping, for about 1/3 of a second, and it does the same noise when it disengages (after about 3 seconds from releasing the shutter button). The image doesn't jump in the viewfinder and the IS works perfectly, as well as the entire lens (focus, zoom, sharpness, etc.).

I've taken the lens to a local Canon service center and they say that this noise is normal, but I'm not entirely convinced.

So I'm asking if anyone else hears the same noise during activation and deactivation of the IS system of the 24-105L lens.

Many thanks for your help!

My 24-105 makes a similar noise.

IS makes a faint whirring sound while it is operating, and a small clicking when it starts and stops, as the movable lens group locks and unlocks from the center position. Your lins is probably just fine.

same, my 24-105IS makes that noise when i half push the shutter and about a second after i let go. It's the same noise with the 70-200IS as well so don't worry
