This bothers me a little bit.

The Mamiya adapter plate for the RZ67 Pro IID, which allows any Mamiya 645AFD-mount digital back to be mounted on the RZ Pro IID body for full communication, with NO cables, is not available in America, and also, I have no clue where to find them OUTSIDE of America.

Are there any dealers from Europe or anywhere else that has them? Any online camera/photography stores overseas that have them in stock to purchase online with the click of my mouse? Anyone?

I haven't talked to a digital back dealer yet (Phase, Leaf), so I'm sure they would help me purchase one, but I'm just surprised that Mamiya released this camera and didn't include the digital communication adapter plate with the camera body when you purchase it new. Because, without the adapter, it's essentially the same camera as the regular Pro II. I don't get it.

well....if you go to the phase website it will tell you that the adapter for the 645 back for RZIID will be sold by mamiya...so i will call mamiya tomorrow...i don't really expect anything from that call but we will see....there is a phase made hassV to RZ adapter which needs the sync cord (i think oyu were referring to that adapter?)...which does not help me because i have a mamiya 645 P30 which i would like to hook up to a RZ...without cables,....hopefully rotateable...

ust spoke with mamiya USA: there is an adapter to connect a mamiya 645afd mount Phase back to a RZIID directly without wires...it also rotates...i am not sure yet if the back has to be taken off/put back on or if it actually rotates...the part number is 212-107
i am not sure why this was so hard to find out....i also contacted mamiya germany who emailed me the same information....
anyway thanks for letting me know that this option exists...

It wasn't hard to find out, since I've known it's existed for almost 2 years now. It's just a shame you can't buy it from B&H or something like that.

actually the part i am talking about is fairly new...the old one did not have any contacts and was made by phase...the new one has contacts, has to be used on the RZ IID and does not need any cords...

The old one you're talking about is a Hassy V adapter, but the Mamiya adapter that works with 645AFD backs was announced way back when the ZD was announced. It's actually pretty "old" in digital terms, originally designed for the ZD back that doesn't really exist yet. It was just hard to get your hands on one without going through a digital back dealer and a purchasing a digital back from Phase.

today i got the phase adapter....to go from my 645afd P30 to my RZIID..the phase adapter works without cables and rotates....pretty amazing....
that actually makes the mamiya system pretty much unbeatable for now...645AFD, RZ one back...rotating, sync up to 1/400, TS, CHEAP GREAT lenses on ebay......hard to beat...

the mamiya adapter is made for the ZD and works with leaf backs as well.....mamiya US says that it might work for phase backs as well, but they haven't tried and no customer has either....there might be some parts in the way....so until someone buys the thing and puts a phase back on it, we don't know for sure....
but since the phase part works perfectly without cables there is no reason to take a chance....

There should be no reason for the Phase Backs not to work on the Mamiya Adapter since it transforms the RZ into an AFD. Any backs compatible with the AFD should work with the Adapter.

The most important advantage of the Mamiya Adapter is the fact that ISO information from the back is communicated to the camera like on the AFD. This is necessary for the AE Prism to work.
Non Mamiya adapters (those that use cables) do not transmit the ISO settings and there is no way for the AE Prism finder to correct the Exposure.

It would be interesting to know if the Phase Adapter communicates with the camera, including ISO and other back settings.

don't have a prism, but the back communicates with the camera WITHOUT cables (won't fire if back isn't ready....) with the phase adapter...this is the phase adpter for the RZIID.....
i can tell you that the iso and shutterspeed are available in the metadata in the files....no f-stop or focal length......

mamiya said there was no reasn why it would not work, but they cannot say that it definitely will....i would have had to special order one from the factory and wait for 6 weeks (not returnable) so i went with the phase (thinking there would be a cable)...was pleasantly surprised...very happy...

Hey Paul, just curious, I don't know if you've done any tests yet, but how's the performance of the RZ lenses with your digital back compared to the 645AF lenses (sharpness, contrast)?

funny you ask...did my first shoot yesterday with the adapter....all in studio, controlled light....the RZ lenses are a tad better...i have to dig a little deeper on this....but focussing was a real pleasure with the WLF....i ususally use manual focus in studio and it was a lot easier with the RZ then with the 645....out of 6 shots i wanted to use the RZ on about half, i ended up using it on 5, even the handheld ones....i am really happy...the back rotates, no cables, the camera won't fire if the back isn't ready....some of the info even makes it into the metadata (shutterspeed)...i guess there are no lens contacts, so f-stop and focal length are not communicated....

So, if it is here what is all the discussion about? If this source is not sufficient why not contact the MAC group who are the Mamiya importers? Get after those guys.
