I'm getting ready to do some serious travel to very remote countries and am wondering if my Phase One P30 files will work with any of the Multimedia Storage Viewers the market? I could carry my laptop to download to, but would rather not. I'm looking at the Epson or Jobo units. Any feedback is appreciated.

With regards to the Jobo, looks like a 'No'.

Depending on where you're going and for how long, it's probably best to take the laptop.

I have the Epson P-4000 and while I do not have a Phase One back, I have used it with RAW files that are not supported for viewing. I can still download them just fine but I cannot view them. There is a setting in the menu that shows you files that you cannot view so that way I know they were downloaded. In other words, there is an outline of the filename with no preview which represents the unviewable file. You may already be aware of this but I thought I would make the suggestion.

I have no idea if possible on Epson or Jobo. But I suggest you to run some tests to make sure that you files are "recoverable" afterwards, without any coruption of these files, even if yohave been able to store them on it. Make sure that it works to avoid surprises.

A bag full of CF cards ??

The advantage is that you can 'spread them around'

Hide some in your hotel or give some to your buddy and keep some on your body - Im assuming theft is one risk

Internet cafe ? you could FTP images somewhere for backup or write CDs for your hotel room/buddy

CF cards are pretty hardy and very small - we put one throught the washing machine once

So if you fall in the water they have a higher probability of survival (esp if tied in a lubeless condom - ia have also seen condoms used for 'waterproofing' flash guns )

You could also backup with a film back - do they still sell film?

A truely heretic idea.. Save some space by shooting jpg high on a canon ?

I think you will end up with a laptop preferably with an external drive too to create a 'buddy' backup

With a lap top you could do some basic post and save jpgs that could be FTPd if you get net access - lets face it a half decent jpg is good for most applications

For those considering a system - the internal memory of sinar backs , I believe, allows writing the content of the internal memory to CF cards giving the possibility of writing the same data to 2 CF cards for immediate deviceless backup

Absolutely right, Morgan. The eMotion system allows to store either on the internal 6 GB hard state memory (shock resistant and very secure), on the CF or on both at the same time. And it is possible to copy from the internal memory either to a CF card (or laptop) as many times as wished.

The Digital Foci "Picture Porter Elite" works with Phase One files. I use it with a P45 and it works great. Disk storage in the unit is available up to 100 GB. Check out their site

As of last year's PMI meeting neither the JOBO or the Epson would read my P45 files. Luckily I found the Digital Foci people.

I'm jacked to hear about the Picture Porter Elite! You are the man of the hour, exactly what I was looking for!!! I'm curious if you can zoom in on a file, the 100gb should be plenty of storage.

i just read the specs on the picture porter, it seems it supports the p25 and p45, no mention of p30 support.
