Hello,

I am going to be purchasing a macro lens to use with a Arca Swiss and MFDB. Lens literature says macro lens should be used for 1:1 to 1:4 magnification, which I assume means, when using a 4x5 camera, photographing a subject from 4x5 inches to 16x20 inches big. What about on a MFDB with a sensor size of 33x44 mm? Does that mean when photographing a subject larger than 132x146 mm (about 5x7 inches) that I shouldn't be using a macro lens?

That doesn't seem right. Can someone clarify this for me?

Thanks,

It means that the subjcet will be magnified at the film/sensor plane from one to up to four times its actual size. Whatever the subject size and whatever size film or sensor at the film plane will determine how much of the image will be recorded.
