With regards to the HP driver for the Z3100 --
When setting up a new paper type for Epson Luster 260, what paper type would you use? I assume semi-gloss /satin as it has the closest finish.
But the HP driver is a bit like the Epson driver -- it is a big mystery as to what determines the difference between gloss and the semi-gloss/satin paper.
Epson includes a sheet with the newer 260 paper, and it says that we should NOT use Epson Luster 250 or Premium Luster Photo Paper (in the Epson driver) for the new Epson Luster 260.
Instead, Epson tells us to use Premium Glossy Photo Paper (250) or Premium Glossy Photo Paper.
Of course, Epson doesn't explain why they recommend the above. Or what the difference is in the Epson driver between Glossy and Luster 250. As far as I can tell, the finish of the Luster 250 and 260 is the same, and the weight is about the same as well.
The weight of the Epson 260 is almost the same as HP ID Satin -- at least based upon directly feeling the thickness. HP Pro Satin is thicker than both.
With regards to finish Epson Luster and HP ID Satin look very similar, and HP Pro Satin reminds me of Epson Semi-Matte.
Which raises another question. The other setting in the HP driver for Photo Matte. I'm not sure what that refers to, since I've never seen or tried HP Photo Matte.

I used this setting fine for Ilford Pearl and also some Kodak Luster.

The reason why Epson wants you to use Glossy Photo Paper is that it puts down less ink then Premium Luster setting. I use Glossy Photo Paper and the 260 profile
on a 9800 with excellent results. If you have a newer 3800 you should stick with the Pemium Luster with the 260 profile, the 3800 has a different algorithum then the 9800.

For those of us who have the Z3100, which should we use when we identify the paper -- glossy -- or -- semi-gloss/satin?
I wonder if the HP driver also varies the ink coverage?
But, as reported by Uwe, I used the semi-gloss/satin setting and it appears to work OK
Help we are new users to the wide format printing world. We just recently put in a roll of Premium Luster paper (no number at the end) and I have found the images very grey. What is the difference between Premium Luster with no number and Premium Luster 250 or 260?

Users with more expertise on Epson papers will have to respond. I've always been puzzled by the difference in all the Epson names, or wondered if there even is a difference.

When you see a number like 260 or 250 after the name, the number means it is roll stock. No number means it is sheet stock. Epson paper thickness varies between roll and sheet and this is do to the way it is made. Strange but true.
