I have epson 4800 which I have being getting some great print from but recently

I have been getting some problems of banding on solded areas of colour (pms colours) (see attached photos)

I have been printing from illustrator, indesign and Acrobat and still all getting the same problem.

It seem to be related to pms colours but all??? and not the photo

very strange

does any one have any ideas?

I have an epson 2200 and sometimes see the same thing. particularly when the printer hasn't been used for a while. I find that I can usually get mine working properly by doing a print head cleaning, from the maintenance menu, printing a couple of photos and letting the thing "soak" overnight. Ink seems to dry in the print head - a theory. I think that there are more drastic ways to clean the print heads, but I haven't had to use those.

the problems is that, it not over the whole sheet, just on very define areas ..... like an shape of an tree?? and the print has been use alot.... so don't think it is that

Because each color has its own head, a clogged nozzle will produce banding or other untoward effects on particular areas of color. I'm in the habit of always doing a nozzle check before starting a print job. A regular nozzle clean (as distinguished from a "power clean") is not terribly expensive, and certainly less so than a large ruined print job (which I experienced yesterday when I broke my rule of always doing a nozzle check first).

I occasionally saw banding like that on prints from my 2200 as it got to be older (though never on only part of the print, but on the whole thing - but I suppose that could happen if only one ink color is bad). I found that sometimes a nozzle clean wasn't enough, I had to go through the print head realignment maintenance routine. At least start by doing a couple of nozzle cleans and one head realignment; there's a good chance that will fix your problem.

Well the first step would be simply to print a nozzle check pattern. That's easy and cheap and will confirm one way or the other whether it's clogged nozzles.

Printing Preferences/Utility/Nozzle Check

A plain piece of paper will do... no need to waste a good sheet. I actually reuse the same piece of plain paper four times, flipping it around and reloading it each time I do a nozzle check (which, absent the occasional regrettable mental lapse, is before each print job).

I agree it is probably in need of just a good cleaning, but there has been the odd image for me that had fine banding with 4 Pass, but not with 8 Pass.

What are 4 Pass & 8 Pass? I'm not familiar with those terms.
