Full Version: Security Gear to Prevent Theft

After having all of my equipment stolen on a recent trip, I am looking for advice on gears to prevent this from happening again. I believe that if a thief is determined, he will successfully steal what he wants. However, I am looking for something that will deter the casual thief, or at least delay him as much as possible.
This is mostly for situations such as the following:
You leave your gear in the hotel room while going for breakfast OR
You leave your gear in the car while you are paying for fuel.

Has anyone used for example those laptop locks for camera equipment (35mm SLR, lenses, bags etc)? What other gears have you come across?

Thank you!

During my last long trip I used a PacSafe Day Pack.

This is a day pack with an interior wire mesh and locking cable. It would take a serious tool to break into it and one can lock it to something sturdy in the room. (Or in your car.)

The pack is well made, just a bit heavier than a similar-sized pack that I own, and comfortable to wear. I found it large enough for a laptop and my camera bag - dSLR and three lenses.

PacSafe has other products. If you need more space and don't need the shoulder straps their secure duffel might be a good choice. Click on 'All Products' to see their offerings.

I just bought the ThinkTank International rolling bag. It has a TSA lock and an anti theft cable that you can lock around something. And they make great gear.
