Full Version: camera directly to USB drive?

Does anyone here know of any way to transfer pictures from a digital camera directly to a USB thumb drive? I imagine you'd probably need a special connector, and some way to tell the camera to do it, neither of which I've heard of. It would be extremely useful to be able to create a backup copy of the images on the camera's CF card without having a laptop or other large device as an intermediary. Has anyone here heard of any way to do this? Or am I stuck traveling with a laptop or other large device (such as an Epson P-5000)?

The ($1,000) wireless unit for the new 1d3 will do that, but otherwise you need to go the PDA route eg: Nexto or Hyperdrive space are 2 popular items - smaller faster (I think) and cheaper than the Epson - but no display.
