The longest automatic exposure time for this camera is 30" -- I have been using the bulb setting in an attempt to get some long exposed night shots of the sky, but I can't hold the shutter open for more than 5-10 minutes (plus there is some blurring due to slight camera shake). I've checked out the remote shooting software, but it doesn't allow for this on the bulb. Anyone know how I can work this out?

Does your camera have a port for a remote like the RS-80N3. That's what I use for star shots, it's affordable and has a locking mechanism.

Have you tried a locking cable release?

My understanding is that you need a cable release. I pushed my original Digital Rebel (300D) up to 45 minutes per exposure with satisfactory results. Here's an article I wrote about it that may be of help:

You need a cable release - I have the Canon Remote Switch RS-60E3 one that I have...I prefer the wired variety for a number of reasons.

I bought a Chinese remote (ADIDT M1) from eBay for just a couple of bucks. It is surprisingly well made and works perfectly.
