I have just got my new Aptus 65 and my ibook is not up to the task. I have a brother in law that has a PC business hence why I have always been PC orientated (cheap prices), however the Aptus doesn't shoot tethered to the PC Leaf software.

My question is will the new macbook (not pro) be able to handle the aptus when shooting or will I need to get the pro version? Bearing in mind I will do any retouching on the Pc, it will only be the processing which will be done with the leaf software.

Does the above make any sense?????

Don't know if it's relevant, but i'm shooting on a macbook (not pro) and/or on a dual core pc/xp, with a p45, with capture one.
Both computers cope well, I didn't notice any speed difference between the twos.

As long as you have the same processor and only FW400 on pro and non pro macbook the only real difference might be with the speed of the harddisk. The video card is not that stressed.

I can only tell you that I have been using my G4 Powerbook to shoot tethered with the 65 without any problem. It is being replaced with a MacBook Pro.

I would end an e-mail or call Leaf and ask them your question. I am sure they will know as to whether or not the MacBook will be a good choice. However, I will say that long term you will be much more pleased with a MacBook Pro.

I use a MB pro with an A65 and it works fine - however it can get a bit uptight when it comes to batch processing and has ocassionally thrown it's toys out of the pram completely towards the end of a busy day's shoot.

That's a MB Pro with a 2.33intel & 2GB RAM, so tbh I would advise spending the extra to get one as aposed to just an MB.

I am using a powerbook with some enhancements..and it works fine...have to say I only shot tethered to it once...and it worked okay...but I am shooting fashion and beauty and when shooting thethered losing a lot of moments...because it is a little slow.

Got the scandisk IV CF cards and the firewire 800 reader...and this cuts the download time in half!! compaired to the lexar professional card reader.

I consider the MacBook (especially refurbs) to be one of the best deals around right now, it's what I use for a personal computer.

But for MFD capture I would recomend spending the extra money and getting the MacBook Pro if only for the three gigs of RAM you can load it up with. Besides that, it also has FW800 so if you want or need to shoot to a card you can utilize the Extreme FW reader or just hook up externals for backups.

For as much as I have trashed Leaf Capture in the past I have to let it be known that running 10.0.3 on my new Macbook is a dream. I had a studio shoot last week and it shot tethered without a hitch.

The conversions are still slow as mollasses but I never use it for that anyhow.
