I am wondering what portable flash units are the best for the Hasselblad H2 system. I have a quantum flash but it is bulky and not always so easy to carry along. I was wondering if any of you use the metz system and if so which one. I see the SCA modules made for metz flashes come in two forms -- the metz and hasselblad-- the only difference I can see is the price. The later is twice the price.

THe other issue is that Hasselblad made a dedicated flash macro but it is unclear if there is a means to adapt that to be used on the H system. Does anyone know if you can use an adapter to get it to fire correctly with the H cameras?

Thanks in advance

I use Metz 54 MZ 4i with Metz SCA 3902 (cheaper one), and they work fine with my H2. I cannot answer your second question.

Jae thanks... the metz seems like the way to go for regular flash. I cannot find a simple way to do a ring flash and maintain TTL.

The other thing i am trying to figure out is if i use a hotshoe PC adapter and use my canon macro flash on my hasselblad. I am not sure if that would work or not (of course manual mode only).

To be sure, I just mount the Canon 580EX, ring flash MR-14EX and the twin-flash MT-28EX, they all worl well on my H3D39, manual mode, of course. With the stepper ring/adapter ring, it can acutally be a nice portable system. There is no need to use the hotshoe adapter, the Canon hotshoe work on the H3D's.

I tried to mount on my H2 system and the foot does not slide all the way up on the camera. i should try again. I did get it to work with a wireless PC set up.

All you have to do is push harder, I will fit, quite tight. The resistance is coming from the 2 spring of the Canon hotshoe but I tried several times and no problem at all. The flash will fire only when the entire shoeleg slided in. With the ring adapte, you can use it on 80, 100/2.2 and 120/4. The Canon adapter ring goes all the way to 72mm dia. and from there you can mount either MR-14EX or MT-28EX. Try and get some fun.

Khun.... YOu are correct. I got it to fit and fire. I have the appropriate rings coming to mount on the 80 and 120mm macro... so that will be fun to try.. thanks again.
