If I save a further version of a LR generated PSD file in the same directory than the other files of this shooting, I would like LR to update its reference to that directory and identify the new files within that dir.

How will this work in LR?

Hopefully, Lr will make identifying and importing new images in a directory easier in a future release.

In the meantime, other than manually identifying the new images in the import panel, just allow Lr to import the entire directory and it will import only those images that are new (based on file name).
