i just did a commercial shoot with my p25 and a apple powerbook aluminum series laptop (1.5ghtz, 1.5gb ram) yesterday and
it was a bit slow, if i shot at the published speed of 1 frm per 2 seconds, the images would show up on the computer screen mostly black with magenta lines. i figured out i need to wait until the image pops up in C1, to shoot again if i want to avoid this.

any ideas to solve this? i think the computer was too slow. any suggestions on min. computing power to solve this?

this looks more like a synchronization problem than a computer speed issue: did you set the right camera configuration?

please explain...do you mean shutter latency...? it set to short.... i have a mamiya 645afd2...and the instructions say it will work with both...with long latency the camera freaks out and the only way to reset it is to unplug the FW cable if shooting tethered and take the batts out of the camera.

I am not much experienced with Phase backs, but this seems a timing problem between the activation of the CCD and the shutter speed of the camera in use.

I am also not sure if you have to "Set" the camera in the Phase software, but if this is the case, then set it to the one camera model you are using: synchronization/timing are different from one camera to another.

Try also by setting a shorter (faster) shutter speed.

Here is a link to the knowledge base article regarding tethered operation for p20/p25's. In a nutshell your laptop is not giving the back enough or consistant juice. So the solution is using a charged Lion battery in the P25, use a dc firewire booster and/or use a no-power firewire adapter which is a pass through 6pin to 6pin cable with the power disable. The cable and dc adapter are available from a variety of sources, but http://www.captureintegration.com/sales/exclusive.html has them both and should be able to assist you.

Digitalguy is correct. Our cable will force your P25 to use it's battery power when you have low voltage from your FireWire bus.

i experience the same problem more often from the p25 than the p30. think p30 got better power mnagement. yeah it always come up when my macbook is running out of battery power. problem goes away after i plug in the powercord for the macbook pro.

also could be the problem of the signal... but more often than not.... its the power issue.

Very simply,
I had exactly the same problem using P25 thetered to computer and went for explanation to Phase. It happens when you computer battery goes below 50% and there is not enough curent in FireWire.
Keep your Mac connected to AC power or have spare computer batteries and you will never see this problem again.
