Now that the new year is upon us, what is the status of Sinar Exposure?
PdF
Good question !

Following the beta-tests run in November and the feedback got, we have decided to extend the beta-testing phase by a few weeks. It is our intention to integrate in the first release of Exposure as many suggestions as possible.
In clear, this mean that the first release has been postponed by 3 months, with the first version to be released by end of March/begin of April.

Best regards,
Thierry

Good news!

I don't necessarily see this as good news after it has been anticipated for a long time.
David WM
come on, give them a chance, they only just announced it at Photokina 2006

Even one month of patience !

Thierry,
I hope there won't be another delay.
Can you explain how to tag/flag selects/picks in the upcoming eXposure?
BJNY
Bump, hoping for Thierry's reply.
thsinar
Sorry Billy, I missed this one, for some days!

The images can be tagged/flagged in the contact sheet, by directly selecting from 0 to 5 stars in the images.

Best regards,
thierry

Thanks Thierry.
Can one just type the number instead of using a mouse to select the amount of stars? Will this flagging/tagging carry over when the DNGs are viewed in Lightroom, Aperture, etc.
Billy

Honestly spoken: I can't remember if one can type instead of clicking, and I don't have the Beta version anymore currently, but I shall ask.

Yes, the tagging is taken over when the DNGs are opened in Aperture or Lightroom.

Welcome,
Thierry

I have new informations (from a very kind person of Sinar) about the arrival of the new programms:

Sinar eXposure will be available in a concrete version:

- in april for the eMotion

- 3 months later for eVolution

- later for a PC version (for the Photokina ?)

- and even later for all the rest (Sinar 22-23-43-44 & 54...)

are they good news ?

Will it also support the Eyelike M6, M11 and M16 backs? And the older FiberOptic Sinar backs? Some of them were made in both FiberOptic and FireWire versions.

Cheers,
Kumar

Kumar,

From my understanding it will NOT support Fiber Optic backs from Sinar or Eyelike. If it's firewire it will be supported at some point. (Someone posted on here ...don't know if it is factual that older backs support will be delayed to the future.)

Basic reasoning we were given last year (when I was still with Sinar Bron) was that the minimum system requirements were going to be a system that could not take the Fiber Optic backs. When Apple changed the standards on the PCI interface on the G5 for the second time, Sinar decided it was cost prohibitive to manufacture another version of the PCI card. You could in theory still use a magma box with the G5, however there are no drivers for those cards for an Intel Mac.

Some more questions about eXposure:

• Will eXposure take advantage of all eight cores of a Mac Pro when exporting many RAWs to TIFF? If yes, are there eight progress bar windows? Also, how many seconds does DNG to TIFF take?
• Will shooting speed increase or decrease with native RAW format becoming DNG instead of STI?

Yes eXopure will take advantage of the eight processors. No there will be to exports at the same time. The exports can be run in the backgrund and you will be able to work parallel on images during the export. The processing time depends on numbers of preocessors, RAM and the speed of the harddisk.

The shooting speed compared to Captureshop is much higher, but that is not cause of the new nativ RAW format DNG, it is related to the new architekture of eXposure.

How does the RAW to TIFF processing speed compare between CaptureShop and eXposure?

Instead of the theoretical 40 frames per minute (1.5 seconds each) with the e75lv under CaptureShop, how many captures per minute is possible with eXposure.

Thank you Goodi,
Billy

The processing time of a 22 MPix file on a MacPro with 2x2,66 GHz Core Duo processors and 4 GB RAM to 16bit TIFF needs in

Captureshop 15,6 sec per image
eXposure 13,7 sec. per image

If you are using a 8 core machine the difference will be higher.

The tethered speed of Captureshop is about the half of the untethered speed of the eMotion.
Sinar eXposure is about 5% slower than in untethered mode of the eMotion.

Hope that will help.
