And by the way J.R., a big congrats on the CommArts win!

Tech notes: my B&W Olympia images are all 1Ds3 with either 50 1.4 or 85 1.2, shot in my studio with one Profoto head in a huge soft box with diffusion removed to give the light a harder look. This camera, by the way, is rocking my world right now. The full-rez files from this story are ridiculously good.

Wow Kuhn very nice

As some may know jump photography is one of my favorite subjects to do (actually everything that moves).

Here two jumps from Corine.

Hey, maybe the emotion is more common than one might suppose - the engagement death-look, I mean.

I’d like to say that this was planned but it was just dumb luck. This was taken on the second of three days I was at the So Rim.

Thank you for all the kind words.

Don .. what a shot ... the emoticon is the closest I could use for Jaw Dropping! Ditto for all of us in the studio here.

Can I ask if that's a plane on the right hand side of the shot... (on the ground)

Just like to add my appreciation too; nice to see the drama like that - makes a great change from the pretty-pretty that seems to be the norm in much landscape work.

I'm inclined to sympathize with CSP. Although, I typically appreciate and admire FD's work, I think this last series is misogynistic and not very interesting technically.

Isn't this what "beauty" photography is all about, displaying women in ways attractive to men? Be it in nice dresses, naked or kept in a cage? And always well retouched by make-up or Photoshop? A way to canalize male fantasies. Isn't this why there are more "beauty" photographers than there are people actually looking at their photos? Men trying to use prestigious equipment to make their fantasies a visible (but still fictitious) reality? The closest they can come to being a caveman under modern civilisation. Not my personal cup of tea, but rather innocent if we accept biological facts of life. Isn't it?
richardhagen
BobDavid, csp: I couldn't agree more! I get a big kick when I see what some people post their images because it is sooooooooo revealing of their very deepest, inner feelings.

EPd: IMHO, you are only partly correct. This isn't innocent. And what biological facts of life are you referring too?

Everyone back in their corners....

This is the longest thread that I know of and if we keep the current comments up it just might not last any longer and I for one would be greatly disappointed.

Csp is somehow out of line. Frank's work and himself deserve more respect that that. He has proved to be a true professional and willing always to share his work and knowledge.
I do too find this particular series to be mysogenist though.
but, let's not forget that photography is also a way of artisitc expression.

Eduardo

Well, I found Frank's work interesting. She should have been without that (forgetable) blue wrap to make it really interesting. Seriously. Csp is pretty on target as far as I am concerned.

I don't think Borat would have a problem with Frank's images...

But I only like the third one posted out of the three. My eye goes to her face. The first two, I don't know where to look because of the lighting.

I personally think all of Frank's images look the same. All of them. Is that good or bad? Don't know. That's his style I guess.
SecondFocus
I like Frank's work too!

Enough said, can we please get back to the purpose of this thread, please!!

Frank's series got a reaction, in that case it communicated well. Isn't that what photography is all about? I think we can all agree on that.
Frank Doorhof
My reaction to CPS was related to the earlier remarks he made about my work, being the same boring flat images (and more not aimed at me, see his last posts threads). Normally I would have never reacted that "strong".

about the deeper thoughts in a series, I think alot of people overreact, open the modern fashion magazines and we see ALOT more "evil" things that this.
This is not meant as evil, or putting women down, or whatever bad thing you think about it.

The original idea behind is was that fashion is often too much contained in boxes.
Like this picture is fashion, this picture is beauty, this is..... etc.
I have had many discussions with people who want to label my or other work in a certain box while in my opinion it's too wide to just fit into one box.
Same can be said for fashion design in general maybe, in other words think outside the box inside of being limited inside the box.

So no hidden let's put a women in a box stuff.
I thought that was clear when you post on a forum with mainly pros ??
But I guess there will always be people that rather think bad about someone than correct.

Maybe they should also not think inside the box tongue.gif

I don't appreciate the work of FD, and his method of bombing the forum with so many, so big and so framed images. Technicaly, it's good, but I don't find there any (good) taste.

I don't find that the last serie is the worst. It's in the same style and spirit than the others.

Not my style, indeed.

i‚m sorry mr. Doorhof i still can‘t see a high technical level in you work nor a great creativity. All i see are uninspired, unstylish images turned to little ads for the tools you seem so proud of. i furthermore think the true reason why you post so many of the same all over on the web is to draw attention for your workshops. so you should be able to take some criticism too.

Your naive arguments and that you seem unable to read the clear massage of your work reveals a GWC not a great photographer. Sure there is more evil work out there and almost all is build around strange male phantasies but the important point is: the roll of the victim is always dedicated to a women as in the real world. You know that many eastern european girls are kept as sex slaves not only in the netherlands, under conditions not far from your imagination so fantasy and reality can not be separated as you would like to . Abuse and slavery are serious problems in europe, images like yours are more than unnecessary.

I look forward to your images.
When I see you have made a post here, I dive in to see your latest work.
I hope you can ignore these uncalled for comments of late and keep posting...
It really is amazing the stupidity of some people.

Thanks for taking the time and be even bothered to post your work.
regards
Andrew
