Granada is about a 4 hour drive from where I live (Gibraltar) and two close friends of mine have chosen the Alhambra to get married there in May.

Their idea was initially not to have photos taken in a formal professional manner, but just to gather all the photos taken by family and friends with compact cameras. But having me as a friend, with DSLRs they asked if I could take some more more formal shots, no pressure though.

Anyway, thats the background on how I will end up in the Alhambra with a 5D and a 10D as backup, taking the 'wedding' job more seriously than they expect, mostly because I enjoy it, and the location I think is good enough to inspire anyone who calls himself a photographer.

But since I will be there for more than one day and will have my gear with me, would anyone here be in a position to suggest any good places in the area to do some landscapes too?

Try the Mulhacén when comming from Granada. The impact of humans in this area is pretty high, there are roads and ski areas so you will need some time to find some good locations.

If you have more time consider going to the Sierra Nevada from the south, i.e. Capileira or Trevelez. It's a 4-5 hours drive from Granada with a car. You will have to get a hotel there and do some hiking. There are buses that take you high up in the NP but May is too early, they only drive once a week then (call the tourist office in Capileira or Trevelez and ask them about the bus). If you go up there you will need a tent to stay, some good shoes and clothing for -5°C.

In the end I got no real time to move around the area and do any landscapes. I was fully engaged in socialising with the other guests of the wedding who also stayed for a few days.

In any event, I thought I'd share some of the shots of the actual wedding. The total I gave the couple was 245, but here is a small sample, making a point of repeating some shots with different processings (colour, b&w and 'dreamy look').
