Hi
From my understanding this new back will be able to shoot 20 frames instead of the 11 from the previous model. So the buffer rate has improved to 20 which is good news. My question is can you do a firmware upgrade to the previous model to increase the buffer rate. Be great if they could improve the buffer rate on my ZD camera.
With the increased buffer rate & being able to use Phase One software to tether & process ZD files, the ZD back is a good deal.
Thanks Denis

They must be doubling the on board memory to double the buffer. Nikon and Fuji did the same thing years back on cameras during a product cycle.

What they need to do more than the buffer is better the abysmal delays in how long it takes to store an image file (10 secs) and how long it takes to display a file (around 4 secs). The screen is subpar as well with no 1:1 zoom. Fix those and they have great product at that price. The Canon 1Ds was superior in storing times and display times 6 years ago.

Denis,

It is indeed good that they improve on the ZD, but... what I pointed out early last month of that ZD has Problem still remains; http://luminous-landscape.com/forum/index....topic=22698&hl=

Mamiya,

Will you take action??? And then... what of us who have sold it at loss? Feeling is slight sore.

Anders

Hi
I just rented my ZD camera to a friend who did copied ( ZD camera March 2006 vintage)the Moran winning paintings for this year. As far as he was concerned & has the knowledge he was very impressed with the file quality & has shot with the Sinar 54 back for this same purpose. So much so that he is thinking of buying one for the reason of ROI. $7000.00 USD is not a lot on investment cmpaed to other 22 mp with a 1.15X conversion. Now with an up coming 20 burst buffer & has a future with the up coming Phase One pro software, I can understand his consideration.

While news of the ZD Back's increased buffer rate is a nice upgrade, I am ever hopeful for more important news of some obviously needed corrections to the internal processing circuitry (or at least better QC in manufacturing) as there has been way too many posts here on LL about image problems such as the infamous purple blobs, etc. that continue to keep me shying away from making a purchase. Some ZD Backs are perfectly fine and evidently others are not. Maybe the new relationship with Phase One will help.

Also, are we any closer to the release of an ZD adapter plate for the 4x5 format?

My view is that anyone considering the ZD should carefully read the post I did early last month, per link above. The problem I pointed out seem to apply to ALL recent/newer ZD backs and ZD cameras.

If Mamiya is smart business wise they should correct this problem and announce they did so. So far nil. Until they tell us, or someone test the updated back with increased buffer then we can only assume that nothing is changed.

With nothing changed it is clear that the ZD has very steep limitations, such as limited to situations with good light or where lighting can be controlled, and when shot at 50 ISO and expose to right and with not much difference in light and dark. For my photography the ZD frank proved incompetent. With the great limitations it has it is my personal view that it is wrong for Mamiya to sell it on market without declaring its great limitations. For anyone who thinks I not know how to shoot a digital camera, with me spending 4,500 USD more than the ZD camera itself cost me I got me into Leaf Aptus 65 back. It is fenominal and much exceeding my expectations.

What I say of ZD applies to ZD only and not other Mamiya products. I find other Mamiya products to be exceptional good.

Anders
