In an otherwise routine notification of a new SDK for EOS cameras, Canon made some interesting statements regarding the Powershot. A new SDK for Powershot cameras will be released near the end of 2008; however, it will be the last SDK for Powershot cameras.

New G, S and SX models are scheduled to be released this fall – probably no surprise to anyone. No details of those cameras were released in the SDK notification but the final edition of the Powershot SDK will support them.

As far as I can tell, the G9 is approximately at the level of 35 mm classic film.

Very nice – but many years ago there was a first league of 35 mm P&S cameras (e.g. from Leice or Contax) which could easily compete with given SLRs as far as Image Quality is concerned. So where’s the progress in the (digital) P&S discipline ?

A G10 with something like a 40D sensor would be a gem.
And a more serious zoom range of e.g. 28 – 90 mm equivalent.

My slightly frustrated conclusion is that at this point of time I can’t buy what I want,
it’s simply not available, even though having enough Euros in my “war chest“....

... not sure if this meets your point.
