Hi all. I'm emigrating from the UK to Canada in a couple of months, and thinking about photo insurance. I have all my gear covered by a specialist policy here in the UK designed for photo professionals. I'm sure there must be similar policies available in Canada, and would really appreciate it if someone could recommend a couple for me to have a look at. Thanks in advance.

What you want is an "Inland Marine" policy or rider.
As a pro, you probably should have a commercial general liability policy. You can also get a combination policy sometimes referred to as a flex or Spectrum [trade mark of The Hartford] policy. These type of policies combine general liability with property coverage.
Talk to an independent agent, get a referral to one from someone you trust and they can help you out and explain all of the differences.
Just make certain that you are comfortable with the agent or broker you are dealing with.

Thanks for the info Jay. Here in the UK we have two or three specialist insurers for photo/video professionals - which is great, because that's all they deal with, and so they have policies tailored to include such things as public liability, cover for hired equipment etc. I was hoping to find an equivalent set-up in Canada since, in my experience, it makes life so much simpler - and I'm all for that wherever possible

There maybe specialists here in Maryland or other states through professional organizations, but many times the association plan is a "one size fits all" proposition.
Any quality independent agent, and I am sure they also exist in Canada can supply you with the type of coverage you need.
Good luck

Taylor and Taylor writes a policy for pro photographers in the ASMP. They also write polciies for non-affiliated
photogs. Here is their address and phone in NYC. I do not know if they cover Canada, but it is a start.

I use a policy provided through membership of NANPA (nanpa.org) by Rand Insurance, which has an annual premium of about 2% of the gear insured. I've seen that photo.net offers a similar, but less expensive program, but I have no experience with it.
