I'm looking to do a weeklong trip to Costa Rica this year (don't know what time of year; open to suggestions on that as well) and would love any tips on areas to be sure to cover for photography. Am especially interested in landscape work but my wife also wants to find great birding areas.

Anyone have experience with any tour company or guides you might recommend?

thanks,,

There is a LL Video Journal trip that covers Costa-Rica, well worth a viewing. Unfortunatly I forget which one it is, however Michael went in 2003, and there is an article on the site here http://www.luminous-landscape.com/location...rica-2003.shtml

I'm familiar wiwth Michael's report and video. He and Chris were guided by a Canadian naturalist and that's how they got around. Without such guidance, I'm looking for indigenous alternatives.

There are a LOT of tour companies in Costa Rica. You might want to give these folks a look...

I was looking for somewhat similar inofrmaion a while back. You may want to browse the NatureScapes.net forum; I found a lot of info there. I was there a year ago staying at a friend's house. The place is simply magnificent. The light is surreal. There are plenty of photo opportunities especially for bird and wildlife in general. A lot of the workshop I have seen tend to specialize on bird photography. I suggest, besides the usual places, to go visit the southern pacific coast (Dominical, Uvita etc.). It is (still) not so busy with tourists, and the landscape photo opportunities are immense. If you want to stay in the Uvita area, my friend does rent rooms from his house on the beach - send me a private message if you're interested-.
Hope this helps.
