Unsolicited plug: Capture Integration is fantastic. I bought my P30+ from Lance at CI. Great support from the whole team. Tim, Doug, Chris and Lance provide superlative support.

This, as much as anything is the type of clarity in pricing that medium format needs.

It looks like the prices have been lowered also which is good for all of us.

Next is to see when the new Phase lenses come out and how well they work.

I know everyone seems to be waiting for leaf shutter lens, but somebody needs to offer a fast 2.0 or 2.2 100 to 110 mm lens in auto focus.

This is a huge hole in every medium format line except Hasselblad.

I like the improved AF speed and dedicated integration of the P30+ and new Phase One body. Once the leaf shutter lenses are announced and reviewed I will consider investing in this open platform system.

I like the idea of being able to use a Leaf Aptus 75s along side the P30+ on the same camera body.

Oh and as James mentioned an AF F2.0 D 110mm leaf shutter would be the bomb diggity

even if they repackaged the old but nice 1.9 80 they use to have and somehow put a leaf shutter in it, it would be really cool.

Yeah, I wish they had made the new 80mm 1.9, I miss that old sucker. At least the new 150 is 2.8.

Thanks for your kind comments regarding our attempt to take the pricing mystery out of the MF industry.
Especially now with the availability of used/refurbished systems they can be in the same price range as a high-end DSLR , but also come with a certain amount of value that they will hold if you want to move up to a larger sensor or newer back in the PhaseOne family. I have found in my numerous years in selling and supporting MF digital systems that a back is more like an investment since they have a longer life cycle than a DSLR. I have had many clients who lets say for example have owned the same back and have used for over four years. They may have paid about $20k for it, in that same period if they went with a DSLR , there may have been about 3-4 models introduced at a $8k price point, so if they play the DSLR game of keeping up with the others, they would have spent over $24k in systems each time having to repurchase and not take advantage of an upgrade program, plus in most cases the digital back being four years old still surpasses the DSLR in image quality.
There is a market and use for both types of systems. It is just I feel a digital back is something you will have in your kit much longer than a certain model of DSLR.
If you are on the fence you should call us and arrange a demo or rental. With our rentals that you can use for a job to just testing that money can be applied to the purchase. There is no substitute for feeling and using the system personally. I just spent last week in Puerto Rico with the Getdpi guys on one of their photo workshops. All of the attendees were Lecia/Nikon shooters with the exception of Guy and Jack. Everyone on the trip had the opportunity to learn and use the whole line of Phase One backs and the feedback was amazing. These users were able to make comparisons to their current systems and have a chance to demo these in a real environment. Sure some are not looking to make a move , but at least they got a chance to handle and understand the difference in the formats and strengths and weaknesses of each.

Our job and goal is not only to sell and support these systems but educate you all on the options.

Can someone correct me if I am wrong..
But the Supposedly new Leaf shutter lens should work with the Older AFDII bodies right?
The only thing that really bugs me is:
The Lag from the shutter
and the 125/th Sync with Flash...
Would love to know if they plan to have it backwards compatible with the AFDII.
Also these leaf shutter Rumors are just Rumors right? Or does anybody know if they are actually working on them?

Here's some pricing I recently got from a NY dealer:

CLASSIC versus VALUE ADDED
Most people obtain the "Value Added" kit and warranty.
Here are the key differences between the Classic and the Value Added, (VAW).
VAW comes with three (3) years warranty covering Parts, Labor and a Phase One loaner.
Classic comes with one (1) year warranty covering Parts, Labor but no Phase One loaner program.
VAW kit includes two batteries, CF Card & Reader, Capture One Pro software and a better hard case.
Classic kit includes one battery, no CF Card, no Reader, Capture One DB software and a standard hard case.
VAW is $3,000.00 more than the Classic.
Some people ignore that the VAW kit includes $500.00 more goodies than the Classic kit and base their decision to go with the VAW package because buying additional warranty coverage for the Classic kit is, by itself, far more expensive than $3,000.00. FYI - Adding the warranty coverage for the P45+ Classic would be $9,295.00.


The P30+ VAW lists for $22,990.00.
The P30+ CL lists for $19,990.00.
The P30+ VAW with Phase One Camera lists for $ 26,990.00
The P30+ CL with Phase One Camera lists for $ 22,490.00

There may be special savings opportunities available depending upon when you actually want to acquire your own system...

In balance,your argument seems to assume the DSLR has zero value at the end of it's "keeping
up with the Jones life"
Most people have been able to recoup between 35-45% of the initial camera cost when moving
to their next camera within 18-24 months.

Do you have any figures for what it would have cost a buyer of a P25 who wanted to
then upgrade to a P45. Assume this buyer then wanted to upgrade to the P45+ a short time later
when this upgrade was announced. I gotta think it would be more than $20K.

I think this is good for MFD. When I use a back I rent the Aptus for my Mamiya kit. I think these are very good prices from Phase.

3-4 camera introduced in 4 years!! Now that is sheer marketing spin. People who use 35mm systems would love the cameras to be updated that quickly, but as the Canon 1Ds is the only 35mm DSLR able to compete here and there have been only 3 models over the last 6 years one has to suspect any other maths you use to justify using a MF system.

What's very clear is that if I fly to Australia from the UK with my immediate family and buy a H3D-39II, I will still save money compared to buying one locally!!

Yeah UK prices on just about all of this stuff are awful.
