I've been trying to purchase a permanent license for my downloaded, trail-version Spectraview software.

Has anybody been able to buy a license online?

If anyone has succeeded with such a purchase, I would appreciate a URL if you still have it.

Don't need no stinkin' CD! Don't need no stinkin' Fedex charge! I just want a permanent license for the the trial software I already have installed which is now expired.

In its "trial expired" message box the Spectraview software refers me to a jazzy but completely useless URL for getting a temporary trial license. It does not seem possible to purchase a license from that site.

Googling around I can find quite a few third party "out of stock" suppliers. I have also found several zombie NEC sites that seem to be the gruesome severed limbs of once living web sites.

Feeling a little lame about this, but trust me, I have really, really tried! BTW NEC2690 with EyeOne 2.

As far as I can tell, you have to buy the software on a CD from NEC USA to get the permanent s/w license.

Why don't you e-mail or call NEC's customer support and confirm with them? Several of us here have had good experiences dealing with them.

I'm curious, is the "trial" version of SpectraView the same as the latest release on the NEC website?

Thanks Paul, I was afraid of that! At least I now have a non-LivingDead URL.

The downloaded trial software calls itself version 4.1.9. On the NEC URL you supplied they list the version number as 1.0.41 so possibly these are different "tree branches" of the same product, or NEC has it's own OEM repackaging.

For those facing the frustration of waiting for a shipped version of Spectraview this could be a life saver. The stock calibrations on the 2690 "look pretty" but they are definitely not what most of us here would call "calibrated."

The URL you give below seems to be NEC in western Europe (site is in English, Spanish and German). I believe the U.S. version of SpectraView (SpectraView II) is different from the European version that you have (although I have no idea what the differences are).

Since you're in the States, looks like you'll have to deal with NEC USA.

For the record, the trial software download I mentioned above (Spectraview Profiler 4.1.9) is a different creature than the "SpectraView II 1.0.42" software I bought from NEC USA.

The NEC version has a different, somewhat simplified front end. The screen calibrations from both packages are very good. But in terms of print matching, using the "Photo Editing" target setting in the NEC version is my preference. For the same white point, gamma, and intensity the NEC version gives a screen image that is more my liking, ie. a more accurate representation of what my Epson7800 cranks out on Premium Luster in spite of the relatively high 140 cd/m2 screen brightness.

You're not stuck with the presets. You can change them as you like and save as many as you care to. D65 and 2.2 are good, but your luminance value is going to depend on a number of variables, the first and most important of which is probably your work area's ambient lighting levels.

Yes, I've played around with that stuff a bit, the canned "Photo Editing" target seems to have been pretty well thought out. I had to disproportionately raise my room illumination by about 1.5 stops going from the CRT at around 90 cd/m2 to the NEC2690 at 140 cd/m2. My empirical "print target" is bounded by normal-office / bright-home illumination on the print which is conveniently approximated by various rooms in my house, now including my pleasantly bright work area.

I bought my NEC 2690 WUXi fom a Co. on the web and had to call NEC in the USA to order the SpectraView2 Colorometer and the software.The version the of
SpectraView2 software is 1.0.42 that was in May of 08.It took about 3-4 weeks to get it.They had it in a warehouse and their webpage said it was there. I called them 4 times to tell them it was in stock.Then it took 3 more days to get them to ship it.Sorry but they flaked for while.

I have been thinking of upgrading to the 2690 too. Some quick questions before I take the plunge: Is there a new monitor coming just over the horizon to replace the WUXi? I already have an Eye One from Pantone, can I buy the SVII software and run it with this device? Lastly, looking at my computer (about two years old) there is no digital video port. Just the analog 15 pin connector. Is that OK or do I need a new video card with digital out? Thanks!!

There's a new 3090, but don't know if the 2690 is being replaced in the near future.

You can drive the 2690 with a 15 pin analog connector, but DVI is strongly recommended. The monitor comes with the necessary connectors.
