1. I have a RIDATA CFR16G-233X-LIG2 233x hi-speed compact flash card 16gb and a TRANSCEND TS8GSDHC6 sdhc hi-speed secure digital card 8gb. I'm noticing that after I take a picture, with noise reduction off, the write times are prety slow (they don't show up on the rear LCD for about 2-3 seconds.

The SD card is a class 6 card with a minimum sustained read write rate of 6MB sec.
The CF card the Lightning series and reads "up to" 35MB/sec; write up to 12MB/sec.

Both brands are excellent, although the CF card is not their top of the line.

Anyway, the SD card is slightly faster than the CF card. I was wondering is I stepped up the the best CF card, which is on par with the fastest CF cards out there, if I would experience any substantial speed increase. It just seems a little slow.

CF is the best thing when compared to SD card..

You haven't specified which camera you're using. The way the camera writes to the card has a big effect on the speed with different cards. For examples, have a look at Rob Galbraith's card performance database.

I think after leaving this thread I did have a look at that. It turns out my SD card is not very fast after all. My CF card is middle of the road. The really fast cards are at this time to expensive for the 16GB versions.
