Any good recomendations on firewire cables for Leaf backs. Preferably with one end at a right angle.

The longer and sturdier the better.

I've found the two FW800 4.5m ones that came with my A65 to be rock solid. I alternate them each shoot to try & extend their life . No issues to date.

If you ever find the FW cables with a righ angle.... there are a number of people out there holding hasselblad backs that would really like one including myself.

I normally buy pretty regular FW 5meter cables, they tend to break down with the Hasselblad back in about 6 months anyway.

Maybe possible to order them direct from leaf?

I'm sure Yaya will confirm.

If Leaf can sell them with a right angle I surely will order some for my Hasselblad back.

Actually funny. I never wrecked a FW cable with my Leaf backs but because of the placement of the FW port on the Hasselblad backs there is constant tension on the cable causing it to fail after a while.

Some thought the solution was a nearly indestructible cable (Granite) but I hear some people now find they wreck their FW port instead of the cable

These can be ordered direct from a Leaf dealer. Leaf also recently added 30' (9m) cables which are 800 to 400 (Thirty foot 800 to 800 cabling is still shaky).

The Leaf cable does not fit the Hasselblad firewire port, unfortunately.

It is true, you have to take care with the firewire ports on the Hasselblad product, particularly the CF series, as the ports are flush with the external chassis, providing minimal support. The H3D series are at least recessed to a degree, which helps.

Just plugging in a firewire cable and getting it to stay put or not break can be maddening.

Leaf's is the best, the Phase backs I have it always feels loose (depending on the brand it is loose) and the Canons, especially the MK 2 is just comical.

Not to take this off topic but I would think that as the latest round of $20,000 upgrades are announced all of these little areas would be addressed.

It's like walking into Macy's and they say they have a new pair or Jeans by Deisel, only $7,000, but the pockets won't stay on, but you can buy some 3rd party safety pins and that will work.

Btw: we don't have valued assistants anymore ...they are now value added assistants.

For the Aptus S and AFi backs you now have 3 options (from Leaf that is):

4.5M FW 800 (9 pin to 9 pin), part # 216-00182 cost €42
4.5M FW800/400 (9 pin to 6 pin), part # 216-00181 cost €42
10M FW800 (9 pin to 9 pin), part # 518-03115A cost €83

Aptus/ Valeo users can buy the above 800/400 one or the 400/400 4.5M that comes with a repeater as well.

All come with right angle connector on One end (the 800 if it's a 800 cable).

For the H3D backs you can get any of the 3 but you'll have to shave some rubber off the connector to fit it in and you'll only get 400 speeds.

I'm using the Canon cable that came with my 1Ds with my Phase back. And I'm making a loop round my tripod that prevents the camera-side plug getting yanked. A single loop round the tripod seems to protect the camera nicely.
