In your printing tutorial I can find no mention of setting output levels before printing? Do you not do this in your workflow Jeff or Michael?
I've read in numerous books and online mags that output levels should be set individually based on a printer test chart printed on your paper of choice.

I never adjust the levels output sliders for printing, I have never suffered problems as a result - others may disagree. See this explanation -

I have never had the need either.
Converting to a good output profile with BPC should be sufficient.
