rainer, what exactly does the photokina star means?
I had a look at the sinar and the alpa yesterday and found the sinar artec not as good as the alpa max, especially the tilt handling.
But thats only my opinion.

as nice the alpas are made, but as long they dont have a sliding back for me
they are no match for the aTec.

Does the Alpa Max have tilt?
The ALPA offers tilt only for longer lenses, not for WA.
I think, the ALPA is a wonderful, versatile camera.
The SINAR is specially for Architecture and Landscape with an easy workflow.

not sure what the star is but I assume it is being called out as a good new product a photokina
seems everything an architectual shooter would want.. well it does't have a self-leveling feature does it? I am sure it pure sinar in build quality.
congrats for getting this to market

What cameras were the runner-ups?

it was my 1. photokina jump so i dont know much about photokina stars, but i`d think they give for several categories one star out. i hardly doubt that the arTec will beat the G10 in portability, so each category needs its own winner.

The sliding back makes the Sinar more expensive. The Sinar is functionally much larger than the MAX (16" wide instead of 7"). I think a 16" wide camera is a big liability in many of the interior shots I make. It also means the Sinar system is more difficult to fit into a carry-on bag for airline travel. Many complained that the Alpa XY was too large and acted as a wind sail, making sharp images in windy conditions difficult. Here Sinar has produced an even larger wind sail than the XY.
I would say make the sliding back optional and removable so that the Sinar can compete with the positive attributes of the Alpa for those who are not crying out to look through a tiny, dark, and small ground glass.

airplane size was one of the most important things i asked for.
it fits perfect together with 4 lenses, two backs and accessory in a hand luggage bag.
i do this every months at least one or two times ....no problem so far.
wind sail? funny argument- sorry me. what about a nice tripoid? i use the big carbon
Gitzo. it doesnt sail ( i suppose also not with the XY ) and has really amazing few kilos.
( btw. i have the biggest and the tiny tiny tiniest carbon gitzo for my g9.
even i used several times the small one in good weather together with the artec. ,:- )
the alpa is not competing with the arTec i.m.o. as long alpa has not a sliding back camera.
this is the basic feature of the arTec, not an accessory.
if sinar thinks it would make sense for sure they could make a reduced artec body,
just with ground-glass and viewer,- but that was not the intent of this camera as it is now.
and why to make it? if you want it there are several cameras already available, therefor
you work with your alpa and you are content with it, as many others too. why you think
that sinar HAS to offer the same now once more again? and why the hell you would buy
it in this case, beeing so content with your alpa?
i wanted a good function able ( not custom-home made camera ) with a sliding adapter
for easy groundglas composing,- mainly because i think its essential for my way of shooting
architecture, which is not soooo unique as i believe, after 150 years of 4x5" ( or larger ) view
cameras.
btw: how did you`ve formerly shot interiors with 4x5" cameras?
