Supposedly this new device will take Nikon NEF files, but does that mean you can review them on the LCD screen. Most small handheld HD devices will store most anything including RAW files from any brand, but won't display them. Is it a stupid ? to ask if this one will, since it is after all a Nikon?

By that I mean a Nikon RAW file. I wouldn't count on it working with RAW formats from other brands. Not displaying them on the screen that is. It MAY store a Canon RAW, but not be able to display it onscreen. Only time and a good hands-on review will tell.

My Digital Wallet processes and previews my RAW 1Ds files just fine (if slow).

To my eyes, the 2 main advantages of this NIkon over the competition could be:

- battery life - this is the main issue with the Nixvue Vista (sold as Delkin in the US),
- shock protection.

WEather it will be able to display Canon RAW or not, I don't know, but it will be able to display previews of NEF for sure.

However, based on the experience I have had with the Vista, previewing is of very little value. I would never delete an image, even if the small preview looks poor.

Plus, the capacity of the HD is such that there is no need to delete images.

Best regards,
Bernard

Recently Nikon announced a new digital wallet which can support Nikon RAW format.  Should Canon also consider the similar idea?

From my understanding, no single 3rd party digital wallet support Canon RAW format and photos downloaded cannot be previewed to make sure copy process is completed.

Just for trivia, The Delkin Picture Pad will allow you (or at least it does me) to view Canon Raw files including both 10D and D60.

I normally don't use this forum, but thought you should know there was one digital wallet that worked with Canon Raw.

My recollection, subject to correction, is that there is no problem with most digital wallets and a RAW display - since they aren't actually displaying the RAW image, but rather the JPG thumbnail that is embedded in the RAW image.
