My initial observations of the 5dii is that it is fantastic

Question 1)

*button seems to lock the exposure - good - but after maybe 15seconds it goes auto again

Is there a way of making this lock until unlocked

I know the lock will probably be lost should LV be disabled

Question 2)

My poxy computer cant run 5dii footage well in FCP - it can just handle the EX1 (1080-25p) - is there that much more data or am I missing a setting

There is a custom function which allows you to change the amount of time the exp. lock is effective for...

I also note that FCP cannot play the 5Dii files at full resolution without hiccuping - seems to be OK at about 50% res. Strangely however, QuickTime Player can play them well...

My solution for editing in full-res is to convert the files to AppleProRes 422. (I convert the 44.1 kHz sound to the FCP standard 48 at the same time.) This _increases_ the data rate of the files about 5 to 6 times, but the video plays smoothly and FCP has no problem editing.

I stay away from Apple's Compressor which I find cumbersome and of questionable quality. Instead I use the free (& brilliant IMO) MPEG Streamclip. This has a batch mode that makes the conversion of multiple files simple and fairly quick - about 1.5:1 on a quad Mac.

BTW MPEG Streamclip is available in Mac or Windows versions
