The 12-24 should work fine. The S2 is built on the N-80 body and that supports all current G series lenes.
It the benefits it has for the 1.5 factor D1x and h will also apply to the S2 as its also a 1.5 factor camera.

I am a first time poster on this forum and a current Fuji S2 owner. Does anybody have information regarding the compatability of the new DX lens with other DSLR's? I know it has a reduced image circle but that should be OK since the sensor on the S2 is very similar in size. It appears that the lens has no aperture ring. Any info or knowledge would be appreciated.
