There are indeed specialized "blimps" to cut the noise of a camera, e.g., on film or television sound stages. I was at a taping of a TV show pilot and the network's photographer had his D1X inside a blimp.
Don't know who manufactures them, or how much they cost (likely $$$). But I bet a large pro photography shop has them for rent.

Has anyone tried to make a camera noiseless? There are situations where your camera´s noise is unacceptable when shooting while there´s sound recording. I think an underwater housing might lower noise levels but they are expensive and are intended for waterproofing not noise proofing. Any suggestions?

Also this site has some interesting conclusions on Leica M4 being noiser than an SLR!
Camera sound measured.Good luck...
