I have an Eye-1 package. Can I use that to calibrate the Nec 30 Inch monitor with that device? Will I get equivalent results using this one or the Spectraview calibrator that can be purchased with the NEC?

Yes you can use that instrument, no, its not the same as using the SpectraView II software. You want that.

The GMB Match-3 software that came with my i1Photo package sucks. I use it for my laptop, but on my Eizo, I use my GMB i1Pro Spectrophotometer with Eizo's ColorNavigator software. The monitor's dedicated software is usually best.

Regarding NEC, their SpectraView software is $89 via download if not obtained as part of an 'SV' bundle. (Monitor, colorimeter, software.)

Anyone know if that NEC SpectraView colorimeter is just the GMB i1 Display?

Yes but there are two versions, one is the same EyeOne Display-2, the other with special mated filters for wide gamut use.

Any idea if my old i1 Pro spectro is suitable for wide gamut use?

No problem with the wide gamut. These Spectrophotometer's are not as good at measuring darker colors but will work fine. The software supports it.

Am I understanding correctly??

I could use the spectrophotometer that came with the Eye1 package with the spectraview software from NEC to calibrate the NEC monitor?

I haven't noticed any deficiencies with my i1 Pro. it use it to calibrate my Eizo ColorEdge CG21 with Eizo ColorNavigator software. Resulting profile at 100cd/m2 (with the black level set to .4 cd/m2) has smooth gradients all the down to black, and doing your black test, I can see differences down to about .6 on the curves

That's great news but the bottom line is, a good colorimeter is going to do a better job measuring those dark regions albeit, you might not see the differences.
