I am thinking about taking a trip around the Olympic Peninsula in October. I only have a couple of days and have not been there before. Any suggestions about locations? I was thinking about the Hoh Rainforest and the beach at La Push.

Ruby Beach is nice during the sunset with the seastacks just off the shore, although in October the weather may not cooperate.

Definitely don't miss the Hoh rain forest. A second vote for Ruby Beach too. Also, if Hurricane Ridge is still open (it closes for the winter because of snow), it has excellent views of the high peaks.

Just allow plenty of time for driving unless you plan to focus on one small area. It's a sizable drive between (for example) Hurricane Ridge, Ruby Beach, and the Hoh.

I would highly recommend the La Push area beaches for sunset. Here's some stuff I shot there about 10 days ago on an especially vivid evening: http://www.eaglerockphotography.com/p888060988

Hoh and the other temperate rainforests on the OP are very nice on overcast days. Also, the north coast along the Strait of Juan de Fuca has some hidden gems.

If there's snow on Hurricane Ridge and you can still get up there (it was closed due to rock slides when I was in the area), it's a great sunrise location.
