For those of you who share my passion for photographic books, I'm sure you're aware of Nick Brandt's work from Lenswork (#61) or his first book, On This Earth. If not, he makes portraits of animals of Africa that make them appear to be almost human. He's got a new book out, A Shadow Falls. I thought it would be difficult to top his first book, but he's done it. It's absolutely stunning. At the very least, find it in a bookstore and look through it. You'll probably decide to buy it. Absolutely outstanding work.

A few preview pics on Amazon, looks like a great book with lots of fieldwork behind it. You don't get shots like that from the tourist bus.

I was blown away by his first book so am looking forward to seeing this. Not quite reached bookshelves in the UK but due in the next few days. If you can find a gallery it's worth seeing his photographs printed big - as if you can reach out and touch the animals.

I have never been so impressed with a wildlife photographer's art.

It states on his site that it is to be published Sept. 1--obviously its available some places. I have the first book--and remember a long discussion on this site about how he shot, what lenses/camera he used, post work, etc. .

I received mine on Tuesday. It's nice and big, and I think it surpasses his first book (which I still love and turn to often) by far. His art is simply amazing.

Hi All:

I'm a big fan of Brandt as well. I went so far as to purchase On This Earth new(typically I buy used photo books).
Any way, I was part of a discussion on photo.net a few years ago discussing his technique and Brandt joined in the exchange. If you are interested: http://photo.net/medium-format-photography-forum/00ERse
He didn't reveal any techniques and, as typical on the internet, the discussion deteriorated somewhat, but still a good read.

Thanks for sharing the link. I always getting the "inside perspective" on work that I admire, similar to Ansel Adams' "Examples".
