Has any one had the chance to test the new Canson Platine Fibre paper? it should be out next month.

Last night I had the chance to see an A4 printed sample, very impressive (rich blacks), but had nothing on hand to compare it with other brands.

You're talking about the new paper with the f-type micro-porous surface on their photo rag paper, right? Coincidentally, I was searching for that paper on the internet Thursday evening and saw that it's available at shades of paper. I've been looking forward to this one, and plan to order a pack of 8.5''x11'' to play with soon.

Any speculation yet on who's making it for them?

Yesterday in Santiago I was with the top brass of Canson, they were launching the local office. They mentioned that all papers are made at their plants, they specifically mentioned that the Platinum Rag, which is 100% cotton is based on one of the older papers, but with the special coating. Besides, an additional paper will come out in Sep/Oct, named Baryta something...

I saw both papers with A4 size printed images, and for my work I would stay with the Baryta paper, but I need to print my images on both papers, so I can compare them with Ilford Gold Fibre Silk, Epson Tradition/Exhibition Fibre paper and Hahnmhule.

D'oh. That's what I get for reading too quickly and posting in a hurry. I read "Canson" as "Canon" and assumed this was just another Canon-branded paper that was actually being made by somebody else.

I've printed a few sheets of the Platine. The surface is similar to Museo Silver Rag with a touch more gloss differential on my Canon 8100. Keep pure whites out of the image area and the effect is of a nice spot varnish on the printed image.

I agree Rob, much like the Silver Rag (my personal fav) and a bit less texture than the Epson Exhibition Fiber. The Canson Platine images very well for B & W, which is the only thing I've printed on it so far.

Randy, can you answer a question for me since Shades Of Paper is the most knowledgeable place I know for this kind of info, since you carry all of them....

is Epson Exhibition Fiber the same paper as the more recent : Innova Ultra-Smooth gloss fiber?. The latter which is available in rolls.

I think we are about to have a revolution with these Baryta fiber papers this year. I'm using the Hahnemuhle Photorag Baryta which is OBA free and and its just great for everything on the Hp Z printers. I also like the Innova Semi-Matte that Shades Of Paper sells. It however has a little too much OBA for me. Too cold, and the OBA's will burn out eventually, but a fantastic coating and texture and no gloss differential.
