Nikon F2's used to have spacers under the viewfinder glass to make the focus on the ground glass match the focus on the film. I went on a two week job in Paris (traveling from Los Angeles) shooting with a brand new F2 body where some-body at the factory forget to adjust them. And there was no Smart Sharpen then! I got really good at finding on-location labs after that.
I am starting to favor my D5000 over much better cameras because after 35,000 shots and a bazillion prime lens changes there is not one single perceivable piece o' crud on the sensor. No gel required, priceless.
