Not sure where to post this. I had my PC redone recently, and I must have had my Polaroid driver lost. My original disk will not support Windows XP. I down loaded version 5.5.1 in Oct 2002 and have the documentation. It states I need Polacolor Insight Pro v5.5.1. I have not been able to down load it. After googling, all the sites I found, it stated "could not find site", OR I keep getting a notice to down load the "free" "Driver Mechanic". This program scans your system, and wants to update/replace ALL my "outdated" drivers, and if I follow the info you must PAY to use it! Is this a rip-off or what? All I want is the driver. Can anyone help me? I have some negatives I need to scan. My scanner is a Polaroid Sprintscan 120 film scanner----quite a nice scanner (when it works )

As far as I know, this product is identical to Microtek's Artixscan 120-TF. Drivers (including Vista-32) are available here:

I have several old scanners which still work well, but the newer operating systems have left them behind. The best solution I have found is Vuescan:

Mac or PC, will run most scanners.

Ditto Vuescan... A bit weird UI, but easy to use once you get the hang of it, and best of all, your flatbed and neg scanner will all have the same UI.

I think I have what you're looking for. I haven't yet installed my Sprintscan 120 on my new system, so I can't be absolutely sure it's what you need, but it's in an archive folder marked Polaroid, and is named pci_55_1.exe

I'll echo what Jack says.

I just borrowed a Nikon 5000SD scanner to digitize a bunch of my old transparencies. I downloaded the Nikon software and the update from Nikon's site, but when I tried to install it, the install program said "This software won't work on your operating system" (Vista). So I downloaded the Vuescan trial, quickly worked out the kinks, and it works beautifully with both the Nikon and my Epson flatbed scanner. 


My only (mild) gripe is that the pdf manual isn't quite up to the latest version of the software.

You can buy a firmware chip that will essentially turn your Polaroid into a Microtek. I did this several years ago, I had to order the chip from Microtek Germany, it was a pain. You can get information on the Lasersoft website (look in the forums). I think you can also order it through Lasersoft USA, the problem is that you have to run the expensive version of Silverfast to do so. All in all, a pricey proposition.
