I'm about to do a print job for a client using Pictorico OHP film, and I must admit I'm stumped. Usually when I use the OHP stuff it's for digital negatives and I do a straight B&W print. But in this case it's a colour job, so I'd like to profile the "paper". I have a Datacolor Colorvision thingy and their PrintFix software. But how do you profile film? Won't whatever I have the film sitting on taint the readings since it will show through the transparent film?

I don't think you'll mange to build an accurate profile with that gear.
You'd need something that is designed to measure transparent materials. As far as I'm aware the Sprectrascan T/Spectralino table is one of the few bits of kit that can do this by design. Although this has been discontinued for a long time now.
I've done this myself in the past, but whether it's worth the effort is debatable. Much will depend on what sort of output you're expecting(hoping for) and how far away you are from the desired result to start with.

Firstly, you profile your printer / paper and ink using whatever gear you've got, or download a profile, or have someone make a custom profile for you.
There isn't such a thing as a profile for film. What you do need to profile is the scanner so that you can then adjust the scanned images properly on a profiled monitor. (See – every device needs its own profile).
This is a big topic, and beyond the scope of answering on a forum posting. Unless you're in a big rush start to do some reading. If you're in a hurry try and find someone local who understands the issue to help you.

Hmm, maybe you are too ;-) I think you read that first line a little too fast ?
Neil wants to PRINT onto OHP 'film', an icc profile may help with colour accuracy.
One CAN profile film (or transparency that goes through an ink jet). Its not easy! You need a special Spectrophotometer like the DTP-41T or my preference, if money is no object, the BARBIERI Spectro. I’ve built such profiles for film recorders, Lightjet's and backlit ink jet material. Not fun, not easy, but doable.

Actually he isn't. The "film" he's referring to is a printable transparency media used for printing backlit signs and the like. It needs to be profiled just like a paper, except the profiling device needs to measure the transmissivity of light passing through the print rather than the normal reflectivity of light bouncing off the surface.
