Since you've probably tried all the obvious, "likely" things, I'll ask something quite a ways on the "unlikely" side.

Have you ensured that no "shipping materials", set screws, etc. remain attached to the scanner?

Good Luck!

I did turn the dial to unlock it.  Is that what it's supposed to unlock? (the scanning mechanism?) maybe it's not unlocking it.  What does it look like when you start up your computer?  Does the scanning mechanism go across the flatbed, or does it stay in one place and giggle a bit while the light comes on?

Pete.

Hi, everyone.

I recently installed an Epson 2450 in Windows XP.  Everything shows as okay (it's been recognized, etc.), but the darn thing won't scan, and a red light keeps on flashing on the scanner.  There's nothing wrong with the bulb (lights up during start up).  The only thing I can think of (that might be causing the red light flashing) is that when I reboot, the scan mechanism sort of budges a bit while it lights up.  Is this what's supposed to happen, or does the scan mechanism go out accross and beneath the surface of the glass when it's warming up?

Any other ideas?

Thanks,

Pete.

plus there is that little lock on the side of the scanner you need to turn with a coin....

Of course I meant to say "jiggle," as "giggle" would mean that, not only is the scanner not working, but it's insulting me to boot!
