The 20D does not have a larger buffer - it can do 6 raw while the 10D can do 9 - with the larger file size in the 20D, the size of the buffer is about the same.  I suspect the 10D can do even more JPEG since they are smaller than those of the 20D.  I share your interest in the write speed.

Hoho! This looks like another success for Canon; the camera that all owners of a D60 have been waiting for  :D .

I just hope that EF-S 10-22mm lens will be of sufficiently high quality. It'll be real interesting to see how image quality stacks up against the 1D MKll  :) .

Just out of curiosity, does the buffer of the 20D still only hold 6 RAWs if you shoot it at 3fps? (I know there's no setting for it, btw)

Starts from this week, many web site starts to release info about the new Canon DSLR 20D. Compare the spec to the previous 10D and 300D, I have the following concerns and maybe someone can give me some advice later:

1. CF writing speed

The writing speed in 10D and 300D are too slow compare to other DSLR especially Nikon D70. Even 20D can have a larger buffer (25 frames), the writing speed will determine the pace of photo taking. Hope that Canon can release more technical info later on this point

2. AF

The AF problem appear in 10D and 300D will repeat again in 20D?

3. 1.6x CMOS and 8.2M pixel

With such a high density ratio of CMOS size and no. of pixel, any problem in photo resolution and color reproduction?

Thanks!

The few reviews I glanced at seems to suggest that the CF write speed of the 20D is much improved over the 10D (Rob Galbraith states that it's among the best out there). The buffer for shooting RAW is a woeful 6 frames, but when shooting in Large/Fine JPG it is reported to hold anywhere from 20-44 frames. That's very good performance, if you don't mind giving up RAW. I personally think the 20D's RAW buffer limitation was a calculated decision by Canon not to step on the market share of the 1D-Mark II.

What I wanted from Canon was the "gap" camera between the 10D and the 1D.  I was more interested in pro-level high-reliability features than bells and whistles--I used to quip that if they give me three high-reliability features, I'll buy it.  When I heard the first news of the 20D, it appeared to be no more than a very minor update.  However, after reading the hands-on reviews, it appears Canon met my challenge.  Shutter reliability has been improved, focus accuracy has been improved, the sync trigger voltage has been upped to 250 volts, and the battery grip takes AA cells.

Hey, Michael, you said you put in your order...what was the store?
