I suggest you try to get in touch with the Cathedral in advance.  Tripods are not allowed without "special" permission.  Last time I was there I pretended ignorance and sat in a pew and set it up eye level and got about a dozen shots before a guard asked to see my permission.  Unfortunately the "supervisor" who could OK it wasn't around.

Try walking up the mountain from each side - start at the Lion monument on the east side and walk up to the chalet - great views of the city as you ascend.

All of the street leading up from Sherbrooke on the southern slope are full of interesting detail.

Walk around the St Laurent district - and walk east north of Sherbrooke - the winding staircases on the exterior of row houses .. gorgeous!

The Jardin Botanique at Pie IX and Sherbrooke is one of the finest in the world. Take along a macro lens and breath.

Montreal is a wonderful city. Don't forget to notice the beautiful women everywhere you turn. Have fun!

For street life, go to Old Montreal along St. Paul and surrounding areas. It's sometimes difficult to get a good line of sight without a dozen cars in the frame but early mornings might be a way to avoid that.

I'll second the already mentioned slopes of Mount-Royal, along Pine Ave (has its name changed?) or Edward-Montpetit on the north slope.

I'm going to be in montreal for a week for work at the end of February.  Just wanted to get some advice on some good shooting locations around montreal.

The last two time i was in montreal for work, my photo time was shooting the Habs games.  but with no hockey this year, i thought i'd do some non-sport shooting.

I wanted to shoot Notre Dame Catherdral. but aside from that, at this time of the year, not sure what other oppertunities there are.

ALso does anyone know if there are restrictions for shooting in notre dame catherdral?  best times? are tripods allowed?

There are a lot of them, depending on what you're looking for.  One thing you should check out is the Biodome. (http://www.biodome.qc.ca/)

Also the Insectarium across the way if you like macro.  The gardens won't have much to offer in February, but ya never know...
