I am new to the forum and have little, if anything... shit, I've got nothing, yet, to contribute photographically speaking.  However, the link below is to the classic (Harvard Classic, to be precise) philosophical work on aesthetics by Edmund Burke.  It is not a description or expalanation of what is "art" or what is 'aesthetically correct' but, rather, what impresses the observer.  It is an elaboration of aesthetics, not critique of art itself, but of the observer.  In other words, aesthetics as perceived, not proposed, presented or projected.

This is an aesthetic theory in the primary meaning of the word "aesthetics," which means "of the senses." The connection of aesthetics to art is a latter development. Interesting.
